The UW MEDICAL CENTER - MONTLAKE OUTPATIENT PHARMACY has an outstanding opportunity for a FULL-TIME TRANSITIONS OF CARE - MEDS TO BEDS SERVICE PHARMACY TECHNICIAN (Rotating/Variable Shifts) . The Meds to Beds Service Pharmacy Technician (Pharmacy Technician 1) will participate in implementing and expanding our current Meds to Beds program. As an integral part of the care team, the Meds to Beds technician will have a home base in the outpatient pharmacy and will help coordinate and fill prescription orders in preparation for discharge bedside delivery.  The Pharmacy Technician will also spend time during the day embedded on the inpatient nursing units collaborating and building relationships with the unit staff including nurses, prescribers, case managers, social workers and clinical pharmacists to help with discharge medication delivery and remove any prescription barriers for patients prior to discharge. The Pharmacy Technician will assist the Pharmacist in professional activities and perform assigned tasks. All activities of Pharmacy Technicians are performed under the direct supervision of a registered Pharmacist. Strong candidates will be independent, patient-focused, and can handle a fast paced environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare and deliver medications to patients and/or nursing units under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist as part of our Meds to Beds service
Help process and coordinate discharge orders for patients discharging from the hospital and transitioning home
Perform certified order entry of medication orders into the ambulatory pharmacy computer system.
Online processing and filling of prescriptions.
Assist patients with new prescriptions and refills.
Determine payment method, assist patients with alternate sources of payment and perform charging/billing functions. 
Compound and prepare medications from a physician order
Maintain controlled substance documentation and complete assigned outdate checking and unit inspections.
Accurately maintain inventory of pharmaceuticals and supplies. Coordinate the movement of stock items when drugs are in short supply.
Train pharmacy assistants, technicians, students and interns on specialized job duties as assigned.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Competitive candidates will be able to effectively triage and communicate with patients, nurses and providers. Inherent to success in this position are organizational skills, excellent patient care and communication skills, ability to integrate into a team, and use of professional judgment.

DESIRED:
Excellent communication and organization skills
Ability to assist patients in filling prescriptions accurately and assisting with online orders.
Ability to interact appropriately with patients and other medical disciplines focused on patient discharge
REQUIREMENTS:
Six months of experience as a Pharmacy Assistant OR equivalent education/experience.

LEGAL REQUIREMENT: State of Washington Pharmacy Technician certification.
