Responsibilities

**$5,000 sign-on bonus**
  • Prepares: case-carts for surgical procedures using the physicians preference card
  • Assists with the preparation of the OR prior to each procedure
  • Cognizant of the variety of suturing materials, needle specifications, instrumentation and supply items available; provides and selects materials appropriate to the procedure and the age and size of the patient
  • Organizes sterile set-up activities prior surgical procedure, including assembly, arrangement, inspection, operation and counting of instruments, supplies and equipment
  • Prepares and labels medications for use on the sterile field, adhering to hospital procedure for the preparation and handling of pharmaceutical items
  • Assists the surgeon with sponging, retracting, clamping cauterizing and closure of the surgical wound
  • Ensures availability and surgical readiness of all instruments and equipment required or anticipated for use during the surgical procedure
  • Closely follows the progress of the procedure and anticipates needs to facilitate the completion of the procedure in a timely manner
  • Performs recommended surgical hand scrub and appropriate gowning and gloving technique prior to all surgical procedures
  • Understand and utilize knowledge of aseptic principles and safety practices to prevent the spread of infection/cross-contamination and promote a safe and healthy environment
  • Operates sterilizers and selects cycle appropriate to sterilization requirements of the article(s)
  • Performs sponge, needle, and instrument counts jointly with circulating nurse at proper intervals
  • Performs monthly cleaning assignment, between-case cleaning of the OR and environment

Education

  • Graduation from an accredited surgical technology program

Qualification/Skills

Experience

  • Previous experience as a surgical technician in a hospital operating room

Skills

  • The ability to perform under pressure in stressful and emergency situation
  • Stable temperament, strong sense of responsibility, considerable patience and concern for order
  • Manual dexterity and physical stamina
  • Able to work quickly, but accurately. Able to integrate a number of activities according to priority

Licensure/Certification

  • Certification as Surgical Technologist
  • Maintain CPR certification
  • Employee needs to obtain Certification/License within 6 months of hire to retain the position

Work Schedule

  • 32 hours per week
  • Day and evening shifts
  • Call rotated throughout department
  • Non-contract
  • Benefit eligible
